Welcome to the Confessing Christ adult discipleship class at Fourth Presbyterian Church!
This class studies the historical context and theological content of confessions and catechisms of the Presbyterian and Reformed church broadly considered—offering comfort and encouragement for those seeking to anchor their lives in the good news of the gospel. The class seeks to integrate benchmark confessional theology within the context of modern trends in Protestant evangelicalism.
For the fall semester, the class will study the Irish Articles of Religion (1615). The Articles represent the high point of Calvinistic influence on official English-speaking Protestantism—their place in church history secured as the primary connection between the Church of England’s Thirty-nine Articles, the Lambeth Articles, and the Westminster Confession. Though being foundational to Westminster, the Irish Articles are nonetheless largely unknown to Presbyterians and Reformed Christians in the contemporary church—hence the focus of this class.
All who desire a deeper understanding of Christianity are welcome.
"But in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame."
1 Peter 3:15-16
